Kobra And The Lotus Concert Review/Club Alchemy, Providence Rhode Island

It has certainly been awhile since I attended a hometown concert. But when I heard that the mighty Kobra And The Lotus was coming to a local venue I had to be there. The club is called ALCHEMY, located where another club called Jerkys used to be. Jerkys was a pickup bar that was as diverse in  attendees as you can imagine. Below Jerkys was a club called Hell, where on Sundays you could watch people being whipped on a spinning wheel....but I digress.
Club ALCHEMY has created a  cool, vintage, rock club atmosphere. Very clean and dark. Pool table..classic video games. The layout reminded me of the old LIVING ROOM,( another Providence landmark club from a by gone era.) I grabbed a drink and watched the other bands in anticipation of finally seeing KATL live.

First band to take the stage was GRANNY 4 BARREL. Yes the lead singer has a granny persona complete with giant sewing needles in the white hair, and a rocking chair onstage. The band features an electric violinist who tore into VAN HALEN'S ERUPTION before the full roar of Granny's set thundered on. The sound system for this club was incredible. And their performance, despite some weird Stormy Daniels connection was a tour de force of catchy, hook laden material.

Second band was BRAND OF JULEZ, and it was clear that these guys were going to bring the metal. Long hair and longer riffs, this 4 piece band tore into a heavy, ALICE IN CHAINS meets METALLICA feel. Impressive guitar solos from both guitarists and the sound system sounded even better.

KATL made their way to the stage and tore it apart. Chugging riffs and the incredible vocal prowess of KOBRA PAIGE, this band was tight and unstoppable. They performed a ton of songs off of Prevail and Prevail 11, the double album that is their most recent release. The band appears to be well adjusted to the rigors of the road. The sense you get from this hard rocking juggernaut is pure positivity. Kobra writes from the heart and although there are some serious topics she explores, the band presents such an uplifting good vibe that you cannot help but raise your fist and sing along.

The headlining band was TEXAS HIPPIE COALITION, and man do they rock that southern metal vibe. The singer is this larger than life cowboy ex drug dealer who is not afraid to share his tales of whiskey, weed, and women. These Texas rockers destroyed the stage(literally) with their brand of uncompromising heavier than metal songs. They wrapped up a great night of impressive rock and roll in a relatively new club that every local southern New England metal fan should check out. Something truly magical is being created at club ALCHEMY!
